His research has emphasized the stopover ecology of migrant landbirds, particularly their movement ecology and habitat selection and how these relate to local- and landscape-scale attributes. He is interested in avian biogeography and the factors that influence distributional change, and served as Director of the Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Ohio. Prior to Cornell, he was an Associate Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Ohio State University (2001-2013).
