Beginning in 2024, the grant programs have been reorganized and expanded in an effort to make more funds available to researchers, as well as honor the wishes of those who established the grant endowments.
The Skutch Research Grant is a new opportunity for researchers based in Latin America, that replaces the Bergstrom Grant for Latin American researchers. For detailed information on the types of research that Bergstrom grants fund, individuals should consult the AFO Research Guidelines before considering an application.
Approximately five awards of up to $1500 USD each are made annually. In general, a student applicant can receive only a single grant per degree (i.e., if they obtain a grant as an undergraduate, they can apply for another grant as a Master’s degree candidate).
Eligibility
The applicant and/or their research supervisor must be a member of the AFO at the time of application. To become a member, please visit https://afo.wildapricot.org/join-us.
Skutch Research grants are restricted to individuals based in Latin America, although the location of the study may be anywhere in the world.
The application deadline is July 15, 2024
Please direct all questions to Judit Ungvári (jungvari@gmail.com).
Please note, the AFO Grants Programs were restructured in 2024. The mid-year round of the Bergstrom Grant was previously available to researchers based in Latin America. That funding opportunity has been moved to a this new program, the Skutch Research Grants, which offer the same level of funding.
